Local Council Debates New Traffic Measures

High Peak Borough Council met last week to discuss implementing new traffic calming measures throughout Old Glossop. The proposals include additional speed bumps on Manor Park Road and new pedestrian crossings near the primary school.

Councillor Sarah Mitchell stated: "We've had numerous complaints from residents about speeding motorists, particularly during school hours. These measures will help make our streets safer for everyone, especially our children."

However, some local business owners have expressed concerns about the impact on delivery vehicles and customer access. The matter will be put to a public consultation next month.

Community Garden Project Blooms

The Old Glossop Community Garden has received a £5,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to expand its growing spaces and educational programs.

Project coordinator Emma Thompson said: "This funding will allow us to create more raised beds and introduce workshops for local schools. We want to teach children where their food comes from."
